2. The programs allows a waiver of building permit fees for all retrofit projects
3. The retrofit rebate is available for one year following purchase of the house. All work must be completed and all paperwork must be received by the building department within one year of close of escrow.
The funds for this program come from the Transfer Tax that is paid when a house is purchased. In essence, if you recently bought a house in Berkeley,
you have already paid for a retrofit. If the money is not used to retrofit your home within one year of purchase, the city will absorb the funds.
If you´ve already paid for it, you might as well have the work done.
